Last night, my roommate and I made a wonderful three course meal consisting of baked ziti, two types of spaghetti and a dessert of brownies, and shared it with a few of our friends. Just the process of making oneself a home-cooked meal is fulfilling in its own, but when you can finally eat this wonderful concoction, it’s simply magical.
The first step to making a dinner is, obviously, buying the materials needed. When I did this I had to basically set aside and afternoon and force myself to go and buy everything I might need. Once I did this though, it took quite a while to find the motivation to get our kitchen key and go make this dinner. This, for me, was the hard part; once I got done to the kitchen and starting preparing everything, things went very smoothly. Since the spaghetti was my dish, I’ll describe just the steps for making that.
The first thing I did was get two pots for making the noodles and sauce. I put some water in one pot and boiled it for the noodles and in the other I poured the sauce in to heat it up. While this was happening I cut up some garlic to throw in the sauce. Once the water was boiling, I put the noodles in and cooked them until they were soft. I then mixed the noodles and sauce and voila! The spaghetti was done! We took all our food to the table and when we finally ate it, I had a great feeling knowing that I had made this meal and that it was much healthier than the stuff they serve at Frank’s!
I agree with Pollan’s claims about the damaging innovations in foods. It’s hard to have a healthy whole food meal these days and that, I must say, is a little discouraging.
