In my demonstration speech, I chose to demonstrate how to shoot a proper basketball jump shot. I found the topic to be relevant because Wisconsin has a very good basketball program and many of the students here love the game, but may not know the finer points to one of the hardest things to do in sports, shot a jumper. I demonstrated how to do all of this by showing how everything starts from the ground up, and how the steps follow this sequence as well. The first step was setting your feet. Next, was to have a good bend in your legs. Then, having a solid core. After that, I showed how the shoulders were used in connection to the arms. Next, proper head position was followed by the follow through.
Because basketball is a sport that I have a deep love for, I felt that my enthusiasm was quite apparent and was not lacking in any way. My volume was at an appropriate range for the atmosphere. My eye contact was very good, however, I used too much body movement when I was giving my speech, which might have taken away from what I was saying by distracting the audience.
My visual aid was a basketball and I’m pretty sure it was the best aid available to me so it was quite acceptable.
If I were to do this speech over again, I would definitely pick a basketball shot again because I love playing basketball and sharing my knowledge of the game to all. If I were to change something, I would make my movements more sharp and controlled and slow my talking down at least double what I was at. If I were to add one thing to my speech, it would be to give it in a gym so as to show how a proper jump shot should look like.
