Sir Jake Standal's Water Post

I agree 100% with Mr. Standal on this issue. Bottled water is not only a waste of materials, but a waste of money. Many people, my parents included, spend ridiculous amounts of money on bottled water instead of buying one reusable bottle and refilling it as often as needed. This one bottle is actually easier to use since you can refill it anywhere there is a water source and because it can be washed thoroughly. I just don’t understand why people would want to spend hundreds of dollars a year when they can have the same thing for something under 5 dollars. Now I understand for some people who travel long distances, these multiple bottles can be nice to have. But refill the darn things! Don’t just keep buying new bottles all the time. It’s so expensive to keep up that habit.
These bottles also clog up landfills. Due to the fact that some people don’t have recycling plants near them or are just too lazy to recycle, our landfills get cluttered with these things that will not decompose. For the people that do recycle these bottles, there is still the cost associated with melting down the plastic and reforming it. This is what you really are paying for when you buy a bottle of water: the plastic. Water is free. Just put a bucket out one night that it rains and the next morning you’ll have a few days worth of water. The plastic, however, is expensive and that is where these companies make all their profit. So the next time you think about buying a bottle of water, think again about how much money your paying for something that is free just about everywhere else. Thanks.
